Top 5 Takeaways from Computex: Insights for Business Professionals

Computex in Taipei, Taiwan is one of the world’s leading technology trade shows that provides a platform for industry professionals to stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in consumer electronics. As a business and communication coach, I have consulted many companies with their preparation and communication at these events over the years. With the right training tradeshows like this can be a valuable opportunity to learn and grow. After walking the show this past week I’ve written my five takeaways from Computex 2023. I hope these will provide you with actionable insights to enhance your business strategies and communication skills for such events.
1. Embracing ESG
Communicating your commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) is gaining increasing importance in today’s business landscape. At Computex, it became evident that organizations need to effectively articulate their company values, sustainability efforts, and their dedication to corporate social responsibility. BenQ had huge booth highlighting this and almost everyone other company made note of their commitment to protecting the environment. By integrating ESG considerations into your communication strategy, you can foster trust, engage stakeholders, and resonate with customers who prioritize ethical and responsible practices. Don’t be left behind because the public is watching.
2. Harnessing the Power of AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a prevailing topic across industries, and Computex emphasized the importance of understanding its applications. Rather than fearing AI’s impact on job roles, embrace it as a tool to enhance efficiency and customer experiences. Explore how AI can streamline communication processes, automate repetitive tasks, and provide valuable insights. By leveraging AI intelligently, you can elevate your communication efforts and drive business growth. If Nvidia’s stock price is an indication, it’s clear anyone who leverages AI in their business models can be highly profitable.
3. Cultural Sensitivity and Adaptability
If Taiwan wants to see itself as a serious competitor in this globalized world, cultural sensitivity will play a crucial role in effective communication. Computex highlighted the significance of understanding and respecting diverse cultures and values. What might be acceptable in one culture may not be in another. Recognize these differences and adapt your communication approach accordingly. Tailor your messages, gestures, and communication style to connect authentically with individuals from various backgrounds, fostering stronger relationships and expanding your global reach. ECS Elite Group for example had a team from around the world in their booth. This demonstrated their commitment to providing customized solutions to different areas of the world. It was nice talking to people who understood South America when discussing their products as I am from Bolivia, in South America.
4. The Power of Small Talk
While attending events like Computex, the power of small talk should not be underestimated. Engaging in informal conversations allows you to build rapport, establish trust, and foster deeper connections. Remember that people buy from people they like. Effective small talk can help act as a bridge that helps you navigate conversations and delve into more meaningful topics. By mastering the art of small talk, you can lay the foundation for fruitful relationships that extend beyond initial interactions.
5. Effective Qualifying Questions
Engaging with potential customers or partners at booths requires strategic questioning to identify potential leads. Instead of basic questions like “Where are you from?” ask more specific questions to find out the person’s needs and interests. By asking qualifying questions such as, “What kind of products are you interested in?” or “What industry are you in?”, you can gather essential information and follow-up more effectively. This approach helps you identify genuine prospects and allows your team to better focus their efforts which will eventually lead to greater business opportunities.
Computex Taipei offers a so much insights for business and communication professionals. By embracing ESG, harnessing the power of AI, understanding cultural nuances, leveraging you social small talk skills, and asking effective qualifying questions, you can enhance your communication skills and strengthen your business strategies. Incorporating these key takeaways into your professional approach will help you thrive in an ever-evolving global marketplace.
